What is Bibliotherapy?
Bibliotherapy is the intentional use of books, stories, poetry, and literature to support emotional healing, personal growth, and self-discovery.
Through guided reading and reflection, individuals can find comfort, insight, validation, and new perspectives on their challenges.
Books have a unique ability to help us feel less alone. They allow us to see our experiences reflected in the lives of others, explore difficult emotions in a safe way, and discover language for feelings that may be hard to express. Whether coping with grief, anxiety, relationship struggles, trauma, life transitions, or questions of identity, bibliotherapy can offer both solace, belonging, validation and inspiration.
I recommend these books because many have found them helpful in understanding themselves, their relationships, and their life experiences. Books can be wonderful companions to therapy, but they cannot replace the personalized support, assessment, and guidance that therapy can provide.
Many of these titles are available for free through the Libby library app. For purchasing used and new books, I love Thriftbooks and their mission to support educators and libraries.
